Abstract

The book Historia del transporte en Bolivia, 1900-2025: carreteras, ferrocarriles, hidrovías y aviones, organized by Manuel E. Contreras, brings together researchers from different areas of the social sciences and humanities to offer an interdisciplinary interpretation of the formation of transport infrastructure in Bolivia throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries. The volume articulates contributions from specialists in economic history, geography, urban planning, sociology, and territorial planning, such as Nigel Caspa, Víctor Hugo Limpias Ortiz, Bianca De Marchi Moyano, Fernando Schrupp Rivero, and John Hillman, in addition to incorporating institutional documents from the World Bank. This diversity of perspectives allows for an understanding of transport not only as technical infrastructure, but as a central element of territorial integration, economic modernization, and the political and social disputes that marked contemporary Bolivian history.
