Abstract

This review analyzes the work of Moisés Gámez, which examines the manufacture of tractors at Siderúrgica Nacional (Sidena) between 1967 and 1989. Gámez situates this process within the broader project of Import Substitution Industrialization (ISI) in Mexico. Drawing on extensive archival research, the author reconstructs the State’s efforts to promote the national production of capital goods, as well as the structural constraints the project faced: technological dependence, inequality in the agricultural market, and difficulties in access to credit. The review discusses the book’s main historiographical contributions and highlights its relevance to twentieth-century business and industrial history.
